From DEMOSPAZ, we are going to impart the course “Visual thinking and art strategies for the promotion of culture of peace and conflict management”. Universidad Autónoma de Madrid promote this course inside CIVIS (European Civic University), in parternership with: National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and La Sapienza, University of Rome.
This course offers a wide range of tools for learning about the culture of peace and conflict resolution through the critical analysis of images and the use of art for peacebuilding.
Images have an extraordinary power to convey ideas and to shape visions of reality. There is a collective imaginary that reinforces the use of force in conflict resolution, that criminalises migration and reinforces discrimination between men and women, among other issues. These reductionist and stereotypical views must be overcome through education. It is important to develop new narratives that promote the culture of peace and the peaceful resolution of conflicts, based on dialogue, consensus building and the promotion of values related to solidarity. In this course you will learn to:
- Analyse and decode images and messages about peace, violence, conflict and development and the gender perspective, based on practical cases related to art, theatre, graphic design or infographics, among others.
- Develop strategies for the peaceful resolution of conflicts through dialogue.
- Develop strategies for visual communication on peace and conflict.
- And you will learn about good practices on culture of peace and conflict resolution carried out in Greece, Italy and Spain.
The course will be analytical and applied. On the one hand, participants will learn essential concepts in the culture of peace and conflict resolution. On the other hand, they will learn about good practices and lessons learned to promote a culture of peace and conflict resolution based on dialogue and empathy.
A participatory methodology will be used that incorporates the experience of the participants and is complemented by the knowledge of the facilitators. Group work will be carried out and audiovisual material will be used: photographs, videos, infographics to complement the information provided. The course is designed as a process that requires participation in all sessions. This course has the following facilitators: Reyes Hernández-Castilla, Manuela Mesa, Elena Boschiero, Marios Koukounaras-Liagkis, Iro Mylonakou-Keke, Paolo Marabotto and Giordana Francia.
The course will be taught in English, on Zoom. It will be the days 24th of May, 25th of May, 26th of May, 31st of May, 1st of June and 2nd of June, between 09:30h to 12:30h CET. If you need more information and you want to register, go to the following link:
