Sustainable Development Goals and the role of local authorities”, 19th of October 2017, Madrid

invitacion 2

Descripción: For the first time the Sustainable Development Goals approved in September of 2015 have incorporated peace and security in their 17 objectives and 169 goals. This is especially relevant as these goals are intricately linked to social inclusión and good governance. Objetive 16, specifically, states: “To promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, facilitate access to justice for all and build effective and inclusive institutions responsible for accountability on all levels.” The inclusion of this objetive is one of the most innovative aspects of the Sustainable Development Goals. The new 2030 Agenda rightly states that there can be no development without peace, or peace without development. ¿What challenges come with its implementation? ¿What role do local authorities play?

In this case, the seminar was part of a programme which has been developed for the past four years by the Foundation Peace Culture: “For a future of peace in the Basque Country”, with the support of the General Secretary of Human Rights, Coexistence and Cooperation of the Basque Country. Since 2016 this activity is organized in collaboration with the DEMOSPAZ Institute, under the direction of Manuela Mesa, codirector of the Institute.

Speakers: Francisco Rojas Aravena, Rector of the University of la Paz (Costa Rica); Arantza Acha, director of Unesco Etxea and Pablo Osés, from the “La Mundial” group.
